AI Ecommerce Tools

In ecommerce the AI tools that pay for themselves tend to be the boring ones. Generating product descriptions at catalogue scale, cleaning up photography, translating listings into new markets and writing the structured attributes marketplaces demand are all genuine, measurable savings. The more exciting propositions — personalised merchandising, demand forecasting, dynamic pricing — need data volume that most stores do not have, and under-perform quietly when they do not have it. Match the tool to your catalogue size, because the advice for a hundred SKUs and for a hundred thousand is not the same advice.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ecommerce AI Tools

Does Google penalise AI-written product descriptions?

Not for being AI-written. What gets penalised is thin, duplicated content that adds nothing to the manufacturer's blurb every other retailer also republished. Generated descriptions that include your own specifics — measurements you verified, who the item suits, how it compares to the next one up — are fine. Generated descriptions that are a reworded spec sheet are the problem, and they were a problem when humans wrote them too.

Is personalisation worth it for a small store?

Usually not yet. Recommendation and personalisation engines need enough traffic and transactions to learn from, and below that threshold they mostly recommend your bestsellers, which a manual rule does for free. Spend the budget on listing quality, photography and search relevance first — those help at any volume.

Can AI handle translating my catalogue for new markets?

For the bulk of it, yes, and far more cheaply than human translation. The exceptions matter though: sizing conventions, legally required product information, ingredient and safety wording, and anything where a mistranslation creates liability. The workable pattern is machine translation for the catalogue, human review for the templates, legal copy and your top-selling items.
